


FNS30404 Certificate III in Financial Services (Mercantile Agents)
Suitable for candidates who:
- wish to work in the debt collection industry in NSW as debt collectors, process servers and/or repossessors of goods;
- intend to apply to the NSW Police Security Industry Registry for an operator license to practice as a Commercial Agent/Debt Collector (Mercantile Agent).
This course satisfies the training requirements prescribed under the Commercial Agents & Private Inquiry Agents Act 2004 (CAPI).
This course will equip you with:
- the knowledge of financial services industry;
- the ability to undertake the tasks and techniques involved in locating subjects;
- the skills necessary to resolve disputes;
- the ability to prepare reports;
- the expertise to effectively collect debts, serve legal process and repossess goods and property.
Career Pathways
The course prepares you for work as:
- commercial /mercantile agent/ operator;
- debt collector;
- process server; and/ or
- repossessions officer.
With some additional training, opportunities may also exist as an investigator, skip tracer, private inquiry agent, debt collector, surveillance worker.

Study Pathways:
Upon completion of this Certificate III in Financial Services you can be granted credits towards our Certificate IV courses in Financial Services – Accounting, Bookkeeping, Mortgage Broking, Financial Practice Management.
COURSE DELIVERY AND DURATION
AIFA ensures you can complete your qualification in the shortest possible timeframe;
- Our 4-Term year and intensive training methods allow qualification completion in half the time compared other training institutions such as TAFE.
- Also, we recognise the skills and knowledge you have gained through your work experience and/ or previous studies. Where appropriate, we give you credit transfer for previously completed studies towards your qualification. Those who have extensive experience in their field can complete the entire qualification by assessment through our Assessment Centre.
Classroom Part-time:
- Class attendance 8 hours per week (2 nights) for 8 weeks
Classroom Full-time:
- Class attendance 4 days per week for 2 weeks
Recognition of Previous Study and Experience at our Assessment Centre
- CREDIT TRANSFER: If you have previously completed relevant competency units at any RTO, AIFA will give you credit transfers towards your qualification. Please indicate on your enrollment form your request for RPL – Credit Transfer. Credit Transfer will reduce the time required to complete a qualification.
- CURRENT COMPETENCY AND EXPERIENCE: If you have experience in CAPI activities you can have your experience and skills recognised through AIFA’s Assessment Centre as an alternative to classroom attendance. Recognition of your experience and skills by the granting of this qualification through the Assessment Centre process will open up employment and business opportunities for you.
