Important Notice Regarding BAS Agent Registration

Recently it has come to our attention that some course providers are offering Certificate IV courses containing the following units:

FNSBKPG404A Carry out Business Activity and Instalment Activity Statement tasks
FNSBKPG405A Establish and maintain a payroll system

According to the notification you should have received from the Tax Practitioners Board in December 2010, the correct units from the FNS10 Financial Services Training package that together comprise a course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles and that are approved by the Board are:

FNSBKG404A   Carry out Business Activity and Instalment Activity Statement tasks
FNSBKG405A   Establish and maintain a payroll system

Note the subtle difference in codes – the older units have a P in the middle and are from the FNS04 Financial Services Training Package which has been superseded by the FNS10 Training Package.

According to a recent TPB Information Sheet TPB(I) 06/2011 "The Board will also continue to accept the BAS units “FNSBKPG404A Carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks” and “FNSBKPG405A Establish and maintain a payroll system” from the FNS04 Financial Services training package, provided the individual can demonstrate knowledge of the TASA and the Code of Professional Conduct. The Board is currently considering how this knowledge will be able to be demonstrated."

In other words, while the older units will still be accepted for registration from 1st March 2012, you will be required to demonstrate further knowledge. If you complete a course that contains the FNS10 units, the course is approved by the board and no further knowledge needs to be demonstrated.

Note that the AIFA courses offered are from the FNS10 Training Package and contain the most up to date units. Please contact us on 1300 785 775 if you have any questions.
